Micron to unveil the new three section band sprayer at LAMMA 2012

Micron Group has revealed it will be launching its latest innovation Varidome S3 – a three section inter-row sprayer – at the 2012 LAMMA event. In addition, the company will use its stand 183 in Hall 1A to showcase its other agricultural and horticultural products including the single section Varidome S1, Enviromist range of shielded CDA (Controlled Droplet Application) spraying equipment, the highly acclaimed, unique non-drip WeedSwiper and the Herbi range of hand-held sprayers.

The new innovative Varidome S3 is a shielded, three section CDA band sprayer which has been specifically designed for drift free spraying of weeds between crops at low or medium volumes. Offering improved spray accuracy, efficiency and minimised dose rates, Varidome S3 is capable of treating three beds at a time and is suitable for use in carrots, onions, leeks, parsnips, ornamental plants, tree nurseries and potentially maize and OSR. Varidome S3 can also be used as a full width band sprayer for efficient field scale operations.

Varidome S3 comes equipped with either shielded rotary atomisers that produce optimum-sized spray droplets for maximum spraying efficiency or conventional pressure nozzles. Thanks to its versatile design, spray width is fully adjustable on each individual head enabling operators to treat desired inter-row and wheeling widths. Varidome S3 can spray inter-row widths from 100mm to 800mm and bed widths from 1.3m to 2m wide (up to a total width of 6 metres). The toolbar configuration can be easily changed to suit the type of crop and can be rear or front mounted. When not in use, hydraulic cylinders lock individual heads for safe transportation.

Varidome S3 features shielded spray heads which follow the contours of the ground to prevent spray drift outside the target areas and enable application selectivity by equipment design rather than by chemical. This means operators are able to use broad spectrum herbicides in situations where normally only a selective herbicide would have been suitable.
Following its successful launch at Cereals 2011, Varidome S1 – the single section unit for use in vegetables and other row-grown plants and crops – is also available and will too be on display at LAMMA. The machine offers users the benefits and features of Varidome S3 and is ideal for smaller width applications. Varidome S1 can spray beds up to 2m wide and delivers reduced chemical usage and increased target accuracy.

As well as the Varidome sprayers, visitors to the Micron Group stand will be able to see the versatile Enviromist range which is suitable for a wide range of applications including soft and top fruit, cider orchards, vineyards and general farm weed control. Featuring advanced and proven CDA technology, the Enviromist range offers minimised spray drift, increased chemical efficiency and enhanced spray accuracy. Additional benefit includes increased productivity due to reduced water requirement.

Micron Group will also be showcasing the WeedSwiper – the unique non-drip weed wiper for the control of weeds in horticultural crops, pasture, amenity and conservation areas. WeedSwiper delivers non-drip contact with weed foliage via herbicide-moistened pads. Made from a high quality absorbent material, the pads provide a large contact surface which enables to control weeds selectively on contact. Sensor controls ensure that the pads are continually moistened for maximum effective transfer of herbicide but never oversaturated to cause dripping. WeedSwiper is available in 2m, 3m and 6m folding units and can be tractor-mounted or trailed behind an ATV.

Speaking of the company’s plans for the LAMMA show, Ausra Landey, Group Marketing Manager at Micron said: “We are really excited about introducing our new three section band sprayer to the industry and LAMMA, as the UK’s leading agricultural event, provides the perfect platform for this. Varidome S3 is the result of extensive research, Research and Development consultation with customers and understanding their changing needs. As well as launching our latest innovation, LAMMA provides us with a great opportunity to meet customers old and new, discuss the challenges they face and how we at Micron could help to resolve these with our forward thinking and innovative technology.”

Micron Group to showcase sprayers for fruit and vine growers

Micron Group, a leading manufacturer of low-volume sprayers, has confirmed its attendance at this year’s Fruit Focus Event where the company will showcase its range of CDA (Controlled Droplet Application) sprayers for vineyards and orchards on stand number 356.

Visitors to Micron’s stand will be able to find out more about the Micron Enviro range – low-volume, shielded sprayers for treating weeds in vineyards, cider apple orchards and high value berry fruit crops such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackcurrants. Specifically, Micron staff will be demonstrating the Spraymiser model for centre-row weed control and circular Undavina and Spraydome units for spraying round bushes, trees and vines.

All Micron Enviro sprayers combine a rotary disc atomiser and a shielded design to help control spray drift and safeguard overhanging branches or stems from damage. CDA atomisers break up the spray liquid into evenly-sized droplets that are delivered right to the target whereas the shields ensure precision application, minimise drift and protect the surrounding area from chemical contact. Micron Enviro sprayers offer significantly reduced spray volumes (as little as 15 litres/ha) and can be mounted on ATVs and compact tractors.

Micron Enviro technology led to the development of Flexidome which is used for weed control in Spanish tunnels. A five bed tunnel can be sprayed in two passes including the leg row and has been supplied to the UK’s top strawberry growers.

As well as its shielded range, Micron Group will be showcasing Turbofan – an air-assisted CDA spray head for low-volume fungicide and insecticide applications in blackcurrants and strawberries. Turbofan incorporates a rotary atomiser which is driven by a compact hydraulic motor. The spray head has a built-in axial fan which produces a powerful yet directed air stream to convey spray to the target. Turbofan ensures maximum placement of spray in the canopy while minimising the risk of spray drift.

Other low-volume sprayers on display will include the Micron AU8000 sprayer – a highly efficient knapsack mistblower with rotary atomiser technology which offers excellent coverage and penetration at low and ultra low volumes. The AU8000 unit consists of a powerful mistblower fitted with a rotary atomiser to ensure efficient spray atomisation and good control over droplet size. The strong airblast combined with good control over droplet size makes it ideal for spraying in situations where good throw, coverage and penetration are required, making it ideal for use in orchards and vineyards.

Moreover, Micron will be displaying a range of hand-held battery-powered CDA sprayers for band spraying in vineyards and orchards. Lightweight and economical, Micron hand-held products are particularly suited for growers with smaller areas and hilly terrains.

Commenting on the company’s attendance at the show, Ausra Landey, Group Marketing Manager at Micron said: “We have extensive experience in the development and the production of low volume sprayers for orchards and vineyards. This is reflected in the breadth of our product portfolio with something to satisfy the requirements of most growers. Not only does Fruit Focus present an excellent opportunity to showcase our range, it is the perfect forum for us to obtain valuable customer feedback which could shape our future product developments.”

Micron Group to showcase its agricultural sprayers at Cereals

Demonstrating its commitment to agriculture, pioneers and manufacturers of CDA (Controlled Droplet Application) spraying equipment, Micron Group revealed plans to exhibit at Cereals 2012. At this high profile industry event, the company will use its stand B206 to showcase the Enviromist, WeedSwiper and Varidome products aimed at the agricultural sector.

Visitors to the stand will be able to see the recently launched Varidome S3, a shielded inter-row sprayer for weed control in OSR and vegetables. Since its introduction at Lamma 2012, the unit has generated a lot of interest and positive feedback from the industry owing to its impressive advantages.

Capable of treating three beds at a time, Varidome S3 can spray variable inter-row widths from 170mm to 700mm and bed widths from 1.3m to 2m wide (up to a total width of 6 metres). The spray width is fully adjustable on each individual head; the toolbar configuration can also be easily changed to suit the type of crop.

In addition to its standard configuration, the unit being exhibited at Cereals will feature a dual spray system to enable simultaneous application of two different products, thus greatly increasing productivity. For example, users could treat the inter-row with a contact weed spray contained under the shield whilst applying a selective spray over-row at the same time.

Micron staff will also be promoting the Spraydome, Undavina and Spraymiser equipment for tackling weeds in a variety of agricultural situations. Part of the Enviro range, the sprayers combine a shielded design and Micron’s proven CDA technology to offer users improved spraying efficiency, reduced water requirement and minimised risk of spray drift.

Available in a range of diameters, the Spraydome features flexible plastic domes to virtually eliminate spray drift, making it particularly suited for field margin spraying and the demarcation of public footpaths across cultivated areas. The unit incorporates Enviro’s “breakaway” system which gently deflects and rolls around any trees encountered in the way, safeguarding them from mechanical abrasion and herbicide damage.

The “breakaway” system is also incorporated in the Undavina design – an Enviro range sprayer with a soft vinyl spray hood shielding the CDA atomiser. This combination makes Undavina ideal for spraying along the fence lines, ensuring excellent reach right up to and around the fence posts.

Next in the Enviro range is the Spraymiser which is particularly suited for pathway spraying due its oblong shape. The sprayer provides outstanding weed control at low volumes using its vertically mounted CDA spray heads that allow for a low profile shield to fit around them to virtually eliminate spray drift.

The Spraymiser can be used in conjunction with the circular Undavina or Spraydome units to achieve wider spray widths where required and to simultaneously treat pathways and fence lines. All Enviro units feature a flow control system with a light indicator to monitor the correct functioning of the spray head. The Enviro sprayers can be ATV or tractor mounted to suit users’ requirements.

As well as the Enviro and Varidome sprayers, agricultural growers will be able to find out more about Micron’s WeedSwiper. Available in 2m, 3m and 6m folding units, the WeedSwiper is a non-drip weed wiper which provides a safe and cost-effective solution for the control of tall weeds in pasture, sugar beet and amenity grass. The WeedSwiper delivers non-drip brush contact with weed foliage via herbicide-moistened pads. Produced from a high quality material with premium fluid retention properties, the 6 inch deep pads provide a three-dimensional reservoir of active ingredient and offer a large herbicide transfer area. Sensor controls ensure that the pads are continually moistened for maximum effective transfer of herbicide but never oversaturated to cause dripping, irrespective of travel speed or weed density.

Besides its vehicle-mounted range, Micron Group will be displaying a broad range of hand-held sprayers and weed wipers some of which will be available for purchase off the stand at a discount. The products on display will include the Herbi range of battery-operated CDA sprayers for a wide range of agricultural and general weed control applications and the Micron AU8000 mistblower for low and ultra low volume spraying in orchards and greenhouses.

Commenting of Micron’s attendance at Cereals, Ausra Landey, Group Marketing Manager said: “Coming up with effective and innovative solutions has always been one of the driving factors of our business. Our broad product portfolio is as diverse as our customers’ varying needs to enable us to cater for most agricultural weed control operations, large and small. We are pleased to be able to showcase our comprehensive agricultural range at this important event and look forward to welcoming visitors onto our stand to discuss their individual requirements.”
