History

Micron was originally founded in the 1954 by Edward Bals because of his concern about the indiscriminate way in which pesticides were being applied, following first-hand experience in tropical agriculture.

Recognising the waste and environmental damage resulting from the use of hydraulic nozzle sprayers, he set out to invent a more efficient way of applying pesticides. The result was the pioneering CDA (Controlled Droplet Application) technology which considerably reduced the amount of liquid used and yet provided a full and effective crop coverage.

Since then Micron has grown from one man and his passion to one of the world leaders in spray application technology. In 1970’s, the company developed the highly successful Ulva and Herbi ranges of hand held spinning disc sprayers for the developing world. Later, the principles of CDA were applied to engineer a range of vehicle-mounted products and hand-held, air-assisted sprayers.

In 2000, Micron Sprayers acquired Micronair which allowed both companies to further strengthen their position within the aerial and public health industries.

Micron acquired Enviromist Industries in 2004 which enabled the company to cement its global position in horticulture, viticulture and amenity markets.

Today, the Group incorporates Micron Sprayers and Micronair and serves a broad range of industries worldwide.

In 2018 the Group was acquired by Goizper Spain, a world leader in the manufacture of knapsack sprayers, whose portfolio includes the well known Matabi and Osatu brands.
